‘Global Mourning’ explores an emotional response to the imminent environmental catastrophe we face. The making of Global Mourning will be an expression of my fear, rage, and sorrow. It is an intentional political act.
There is no place on Earth unaffected by global warming and extreme weather events. The Polar regions are like the Earth’s cool rooms, managing and maintaining our global climate. Alarmingly, they are melting, with consequences that are far-reaching and terrifying.
International scientific research has revealed Antarctica to be an extremely sensitive indicator of climate change, but the science and the evidence have not convinced the powers-that-be of the imminent danger we are in.
As an artist I feel a duty to be an activist for our environment, to use my skills to bring a powerful, visual and emotive perspective to this crisis.
