This work combines images and ideas of time and the ocean from different points of view and within different time frames. It sets personal memories against broader historical events, particularly involving migrants seeking asylum by boat.

The drawings are made with a pokerwork machine, the image burned into the surface of the paper. Aside from the metaphors it bears of being permanently marked by certain images and memories, I like the slow deliberate nature of the pokerwork drawing process.

This is the third and final of three pyrographic interrelated drawing exhibitions held at ArticulateUpstairs since 2019 and is a synthesis of the visual ideas developed in the previous two shows.

Artist talks with Sarah Keighery & Billy Gruner, and Kendal Heyes | Sun Oct 9, 3-5pm

Billy Gruner will discuss his shared (with Sarah Keighery) international career as artist-curator in the field of post 20th century reductive art, and a global movement we participated over 20+ years. Also, what is implied by the terms 'Post Formalism', the 'nonobjectform' and, the 'flat platform' in relation to the curatorial concept of 'coterie to coterie'. Kendal Heyes will discuss the slow deliberate nature of the pokerwork drawing process in his practice and the how this iteration is a synthesis of the visual ideas developed from the previous two projects also shown here at ArticulateUpstairs in 2019.
