'Of night, light and half-light' 2021

.

90 x 30 cm, Paper, textile and timber (antique tenugui cloth patched with contemporary cloth scraps stitched with kami-ito paper thread)

The possibilities of cloth as canvas unfurls a myriad of evocative material histories. Textiles and stitching, an intrinsic part of everyday material culture were as creative expression, historically gendered and relegated as craft. This work positions craft-as-art within fragile frameworks; of familiar materials and actions made unfamiliar by spatial context.
