The Women's Room - a collaborative painting by Eleanor Er and Barbara Aroney
The painting examines the role of women in today's world. From early feminist readings through to the depiction of women in contemporary art and iconic symbols of female representation, The Women's Room is a space of containment. Despite many advances, old societal and religious constructs continue to assert and direct the place women occupy.

Barbara Aroney and Eleanor Er share a studio at One +2 studio in Rozelle.
The collaborative process developed organically over many months through the interplay of ideas about painting history, contemporary feminism and painting practices within the shared studio. Gradually the themes and supporting structures of the painting matured into a coherent composition that expressed our understanding of women's place today.
