Hues, bright.
And dirty greens, light browns, pale yellows,
dark olives in deep shadows.
White rocks shining in drying heat.
Cooling waters, clear.
And deep, Aegean blues.
O Greece! my muse.

Artist profile

Jan Handel has a particular interest in the modernist grid and colour interactions through layering. She seeks an unlikely cohesion between gesture and hard-edge abstraction to give form to circumstances inherent in human experience. She continually returns to themes of order and the idea that known boundaries allow greater freedom.
