Six Ordinary Women Remember ‘The Dinner Party’ (2025)

The work is a homage to Judy Chicago’s The Dinner Party (1974-79) which importantly for the time, asserted the place of those women who had made a significant mark in history but who had largely been ignored by the patriarchy. Now, 50 years later, I’m proposing that every woman regardless of fame, class, race, ethnicity, or physical ability, has a place around the table.

Six red velvet chairs, each representing a woman, have been dismantled and reconfigured to hang vertically, taking on the proportions of a standing human form. They are arranged around an equilateral triangular form, referencing the triangular table used by Judy Chicago. The triangle represented strength and equality. In front of each ‘figure’ is a round disk marking a place setting and on which are elemental designs evoking the central core imagery reminiscent of those in The Dinner Party .
