Gary Shinfield

The series of works titled Maps 1 - 4 consists of four separate images using the print processes of woodcutting and photopolymer plate etching. These images are made up of lines and shapes following contours of landforms both physical and imagined. They also trace pathways through life, never following planned routes and rarely arriving at expected destinations. By cropping images randomly from larger plates, maps of connection and disconnection are created. This series of prints forms part of a larger body of work exploring the idea of mapping experience through time and space.
