Apatosaurus
For this exhibition, I like to highlight the continuous exploitation of our planet earth and therefore, the limited resources it is able to offer. My idea was to use found material that would be otherwise discarded to create a playful artwork. Apatosaurus contains of two small paintings made of two negative cut out timber pieces from a 3D puzzle. The patterns on the pieces were created by overlaying the two, tracing the outlines and colouring in the shapes. The holes in the timber sheets still refer to the 3D figure, which had been taken out, a dinosaur, an extinct species. The work tries to combine a play of abstracted shapes and colours with references to a past world and thus eliciting the question how long we will be able to continue living on this planet earth.
