 Wetplate collodion on blue glass, 27 x 16 x 6cm, 2023

As the earth faces major challenges in the face of human intervention, wetlands are recognised for their essential role in mitigating the impact of climate change. Passing Time 2023 seeks to commemorate the psyche of wetlands as protectors of the earth. Mysticism, mythology, and elusive fragments are considered along with the ways memory, culture, and photography influence our perception of the world. Blue glass is intentionally used to reference ‘blue carbon’, a scientific term for the natural bio-sequestration process of storing carbon in coastal wetlands.

Artist profile

My art practice utilises diverse photographic practices to present contemporary understandings of place. I am particularly drawn to the 19th-century wet collodion process of exposing images directly onto glass for the haunting, timeless qualities and imperfect traces left by the maker.
