Jane Prior and Geoff Eades

 Pardalotes at Mt Trefle

.

Mixed medium of charcoal, ink, acrylic, photos, gum leaves, wire, foam board, video, Goliath ladder. Dimensions: 180 x 100cm Year: 2023

This work evolved from our love of birdlife, birdscribble and the bush. It reflects on the immersive process of birdwatching with its layered elements, including observation of behavioural and physical detail. The process also considers local environments; In this case, why do we find this tiny Spotted Pardalote here, in a tiny patch of remnant scrub near central Sydney? One answer may be perspective.

David Suzuki:
“The way we see the world shapes the way we treat it.
If a mountain is a deity, not a pile of ore,
If a forest is a sacred grove, not timber,
If other species are biological kin, not resources,
Or if the planet is our mother, not an opportunity -
Then we will treat each other with greater respect
Thus is the challenge, to look at the world from a different perspective.”

Artist profile

Geoff Eades is a musician and bird/wildlife photographer. In 2022, he won the photography section of the Inner West Greenway Art Prize.

Jane Prior is drawn to the immersive, ephemeral nature of the bush. Gentle and wild, structured and free, evolved and primitive - Jane’s work respectfully disrupts the natural order.
