 White Silence

The objective of the White Silence installation is to create a multi-sensory experience by suspending a haptic sculptural form from the ceiling. The shadows are essential to this installation, as imagination usually is stimulated by the lights and the shadows.

White Silence aims to envelop the viewer in a narrative where the viewer becomes an active participant through movement and interaction. In such space, the viewer’s experience becomes an interweaving between the body, time, and space, rather than being interpreted merely by a visual grammar.

Artist profile

I was born and raised in Harbin city of ice, where winters can last up to six months of sub-zero temperatures. The memories of growing up in such snowcapes play an influential role in my monochromatic works. Being a process-oriented artist I thrive on ambiguities of fragility/strength, and light/shadows. The fragility of my works is a metaphor because to be fragile is also to be vulnerable. My work records the time between formal and material imagination where the artist's body is the centre of embodiment. This journey of thinking through materials manifests many different configurations of biomorphic shapes.
