 Time is on my Side

.

woven polypropylene, cotton thread, wire, 2024

‘Time is in my Side’ is part of my series of soft sculptures made from onion bags. In the process of using this mundane material I realised that its flexibility and variability is based on the simple grid. Like always, my aim is to create non-objective artworks, which evoke some kind of emotional responses.

Artist profile

Elke Wohlfahrt is a German-born, Australian artist with a BVA (1st Class Honours) degree of Sydney University (Sydney College of the Arts) in sculpture, installation and performance as well as an Advanced Diploma of Fine Arts in painting and sculpture from Sydney Gallery School (TAFE Meadowbank).

Wohlfahrt’s sculptural work either reflects art-historical movements like Arte Povera or Minimalism or follows merely aesthetic rules and notions. With a nod to environmental issues, she only uses found and donated objects in creative ways to produce small to large sculptures and installations with or without a particular meaning.
