Carving into the 'skin' of the black clay body signifies the scars we all carry as human beings. It is too easy to get caught in reflecting on the past and forget to live in the present. Every day I am reminded of all the disjoints, divorces, disagreements, detachment securely held in my past. The making and carving process lets me engage in deep listening, quieten my mind, be present and find hope once more.
