 Second-hand Textiles 200cm x 100cm 2004

There is a never-ending churn of pollution and overconsumption emanating from the fashion industry between production and landfill (with maybe a short pit stop in our homes, to be worn on our bodies). I have linked the verticality of clothes hanging in my wardrobe to that of trees growing in a forest. The ecology of trees and forests is used to imagine a conversation encompassing fast fashion, overconsumption and the natural environment. Going forward, I want to question aspects of value versus waste, and the purchase, use/reuse, and disposal of clothes in our wardrobes, using natural forest systems to inform.

Artist profile

In 2020, Jane Bodnaruk completed a Master of Visual Arts at the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra. Jane has utilised second-hand clothing and textiles to make art engaging with women, the ubiquity of textiles and their inherent ability to nurture, and the practice of careful focus of our surrounding natural environments.
