Abstract Bookwork (cut & fold), 2024

.

hand-drawn and painted bookwork; pencil, pen, fibre-tipped marker and gouache on paper; 42 x 59.4 cm (template sheet); dimensions variable (folded bookwork)

’Abstract Bookwork (cut & fold)’ illustrates my creative process of making a 3-D bookwork from 2-D sheet of paper. The template is an abstracted pictorial or graphic representation, which is then cut out, folded, and transformed into a completed bookwork. The proposition for ‘Process(ed)’ was to send a 2-D template with instructions, to be cut out and folded in situ. The resulting bookwork is presented in the exhibition accompanied by the interpretive frame provided by the remnants of the template.

Artist profile

I am a curator, writer and artist based in Melbourne. I have a strong interest in 20th Century Modernism, specifically Constructivism and Bauhaus graphic design and typography. I also draw creative inspiration from the intersections of geometric abstraction with graphic design, books, posters, and signage.
