As Full as a Mountain (2025) is a collaborative video artwork by multidisciplinary artists Kathryn Cowen and Gareth Jenkins. It combines a digital drawing which has been deconstructed into layers, animated and looped, with a soundscape composed of nature field recordings blended with experimental sound improvisations and poetic narration. The vocals were recorded in an abandoned mine shaft. This kinetic sound drawing reveals part of the artists’ collaborative process and draws on preliminary studies made in the development of the audiovisual component of their recent installation, Serendipia (2024), commissioned by Yarrila Arts and Museum, Coffs Harbour. The work is made through conversation and a continual process of collaboration, passing elements back and forth with a constant and evolving exchange of ideas and skills.

Artist profile

Since 2021 Kathryn Cowen and Gareth Jenkins have developed a collaborative art practice that builds on their twenty year history as independent artists. They bring their diverse practices in painting, poetry, sculpture, sound, electronics and animation into conversation in their works. During 2024 they were commissioned by Yarrila Arts and Museum to create Serendipia, a deeply immersive large-scale multimedia environment featuring a soundscape, animated landscape and biomorphic sculptures experienced under ultraviolet light. Remember Casablanca for Cementa24 expanded their practice into audience participation and interactivity. Their collaborative process involves a generous, continuous exchange of ideas and skills.
