Shield in a field of dreams (blanket)

Waste papers, acrylic paint, flower petals, glue, 132 X 78 cm, 2024

I consider what the future will look like. What will remain? What are our needs? What will be useful? Will we be nomadic?
I have created a series of artworks made from rubbish; waste paper, house paint, cotton threads, petals that blow into my studio, and more…
This artwork is one of a series of experimental forms that are a response to meeting our basic needs for survival and finding some pleasure in the rubble of the traumatised, broken urban landscape. Being part human: a wish for survival; part dwellings: a home for survival; part protection: warmth for survival. They are not framed as precious objects for longevity, they are utilitarian and designed to fold for convenience and mobility.
