Artist profile

Lois Waters works with drawing, printmaking and weaving to understand material properties and their interactions. Her practice considers the ability of the printed image to operate as a surface, an object, or a simulation of both. She uses weaving and pleating techniques to dissolve and reshape materials into new three-dimensional structures. These forms are not displayed as objects in themselves, but are instead used as plates in an expanded printmaking practice. In each final work these woven forms are only partially revealed, and their imprint takes on a new resonance.
