 Sipa & Banksia - Records (2024)

.

 .

Sipa & Banksia - Records (2024) is an installation and series of Sound Art performances. The word "record" is explored in two ways; to document and the audio format. Two large circular "records" document textures derived from a sipa ball (a traditional Filipino rattan ball) and abstracted rubbings of a banksia pod. Both Sipa & Banksia are "played" by the artist using a banksia pod, sipa ball and digital effects pedals.

"Sipa"- 400mm (d) x 70mm (w), Deconstructed table (found object, aluminium), rattan, burlap lace, acrylic. "Banksia": 600mm (d) x 80mm (w), Deconstructed found pine table, laser cut MDF, aluminium, acrylic. Banksia pods, Rattan balls, Media Player & Headphones. Audio (20mins approx)

Artist profile

I am an emerging artist whose practice spans installation, sculpture and Sound Art performance. My work explores the intersections between my Filipino and Australian heritages, combining elements from the Australian landscape with symbolic references drawn from my Filipino cultural experience. I have recently contributed to group shows, led a hands-on Sound Art workshop and composed music for a short film by Penrith-based ARI, Riff Raff. My multidisciplinary approach reflects my engagement with culture and creating a dialogue that resonates through various mediums. I aim to tell stories that combine identity, memory and place.
