Somewhere between fantasy, shadow play and experience we discover ourselves and curate our memories. I was looking for the the kind of process that might reflect or better, enhance such ragged and unruly discoveries. Looking back, cat and mouse was the model. Coping with lack of control, learning to accept it and what it could offer. I used ink and paper - coaxing, then, unanticipated, odd responses, resistance. Quite Not nearly the control I hoped for, but often much more than I could have imagined.

The results were more sexual than I anticipated. The process itself brought a great deal to my unanchored idea and to issues in my own practice around experimentation, spontaneity, coincidence and confidence.

And a bonus - it seemed relevant to womens’ experiences generally and therefore for this theme.

Artist profile

I started art seriously by learning to paint, first in Watercolours and then, at the National Art School in 2002, in oils. Gradually I moved into printmaking, relieved that so much interest, texture and general excitement can be generated within a print. There’s any number of techniques I’m keen to experiment with, and this work with pouring started as fun, but has offered much more. I’ve sent a one-page CV with details of recent exhibitions I’ve participated in.
