In Place of Memory- Inhabiting Other Worlds
.
Felt, balsa wood and found chair, dimensions variable, 2024
As adults we try to remember our world as a child but that memory is tagged and dog-eared, sometimes marked by misconstrued recollections, other people’s recollections besides our own, or the preeminent photo. Through creative acts one can play, and recover that distant feeling beholden to that time so that it might generate that vital sense of ‘I am here and nothing else matters right now’.
Sue Callanan creates sculptural installations and objects which are responsive to their site- the architecture and its surrounds, including the social function or historical context of the space. They are designed to create a bodily awareness of the space through which we move.
