 'Shocking Facts'

.

 2 Channel UHD Video, 2024. 2 TV , w 180 x h 180 cm approx

This beautiful, interconnected living planet is our home. But climate change has changed my perception of nature. I cannot see it without the threat impending ecological doom. ‘Shocking facts’ is a 2 channel video work that articulates this threat. The corporate drive for endless profits is killing the planet. Fossil fuel companies have known since the 1960s that fossil fuels would cause climate change & they deliberately lied, employing the same tactics as the tobacco industry, they even used the same scientists, lobbyist and PR companies to stymie the phase out of fossil fuels.
Noelene Lucas is a video installation artist with a background in sculpture. Her work interrogates the insidious influence of capitalism on the environment, using art as a tool to expose the destructive relationship between corporatism and ecological collapse. Through her work she provokes a necessary critique of the systems that prioritize profit over the planet, urging viewers to question the true cost of unchecked economic growth. Noelene has been curated into major exhibitions in Australia, Asia & Europe. The Australia Council awarded Noelene two Australia Council Tokyo studio residencies, which deeply affected her life, art practice and PhD at ANU.
