A Meditation on OUT OF PLACE: remnants of foam and other plastics found broken up out in the world

.

salvaged plastic litter, reused food containers, sign (invitation to meditate) inherited over bed table and Articulate chairs, dimensions variable, 2024

I reuse small clear food containers to sort tiny plastic litter according to types and colouration, in readiness for hanging from hairs in installations that evoke undersea debris. The smallest fragments are also sorted by size. All are used as found, nothing is shaped.
On this occasion the sorting containers become the artwork and visitors are invited to handle as they reflect on the salvaged rubbish, admire/deplore and continue sorting as they feel inclined.

Artist profile

I work with salvaged plastic litter in installations and sculptures to highlight our wasteful lifestyles and corporate greed pushing high turnover of products that don't last. Single use plastic packaging makes up a large amount of the garbage in the seas and on land.
