Ceramic sculptures Astral 2, Astral 3 and Astral 4 capture a fleeting moment in the cosmic process of star dust transformation. Silica, feldspar, iron and other complex elements present in these artworks originated billions of years ago from ancient stellar explosions. Their remnants travelled through space and time to form our solar system and the living organisms on our planet, in a process of perpetual transformation. The shapes and colours of the sculptures endeavour to replicate the convoluted movements of mineral formation, the intense struggle between stone, fire and water mirrored in the process of ceramic making.

Artist profile

My work investigates different modalities in which information about the universe and related theories of the sublime are translated into contemporary works of art. Through a range of media including painting, drawing, digital video, and clay, I explore connections between imagination and reality, the visible and the invisible, and transformation metaphorically linked with alchemy.
