The Sum of All Parts - Timeline

.

 Porcelain, light fitting, hanging shelves,

Beginning with a blob of clay offers a vast initial freedom which invites restraints to create form. The precariousness of working with porcelain often ends in apparent "failure" but offers new adventures and ways of thinking about what is the end product.
The ideas of construction, deconstruction and reconstruction have been revisited through this body of work. The finished light box displayed here originates from my Drawing Blindfolded series from 2015 containing porcelain two-dimensional ‘light paintings’, where the composition only revealed itself after the firing, giving an impression of spatial dimension. The porcelain shards, on the other hand, derive from "failures" from this exhibition, now broken and reconstructed and morphed into the three-dimensional stacks – presenting a total re-composition.

Artist profile

The process of making my objects is an evolving dialogue between the material and myself. Clay at its various stages of drying offers many ways of making. Identifying how time subtly enters this dialogue is a crucial part of my process and attaining this understanding is a lifelong pursuit of mine.
