 Erasure (prototype)

.

Erasure is to wipe away memory.
This is a speculative work in progress which is intended to be shown at some time in the future in Newcastle in the hope that those who have organised the demise of the arts take notice. It mourns the dismantling of the School of Fine Art at The University of Newcastle. All that remains is a concrete slab and memories.

Artist profile

My work leans towards a closer reading of contemporary environmentally engaged art (land art) by way of immersion while noting Heidegger's idea of "being in and of the world". These experiential pieces adhere to an aesthetic grounded in the reductive and restrained. The work is informed by a certain rough and imperfect aesthetic where its materiality often carries metaphor. It is not made for a ready consumption but it is hoped that the work opens up spaces to the for contemplation and the phenomenological.
