Walking is the Process (walking, collecting, thinking, making)

Maps, photographs, memorabilia, and link to video, 2024-2025

Walking is the process. I walk to learn, know where I am, to be part of the world. I walk to make art, and my art is my walks. As a walking artist, I draw, take photographs, collect memorabilia and write in a journal to amass a collection of materials from which I can make artworks. Walking art is an ongoing and expansive process.
This series traces the many and varied walks I made while travelling overseas in 2024 to (re)connect with artists, friends and family and experience new and familiar countries. I had the good fortune to participate in the CritLab Italian Residency Program, attend and present a paper at the Walking Art and Relational Geographies Conference in Spain and travel to several cities in the United States, my country of origin.
My collection of materials is enormous. As I unpack and transform these materials into artworks I will share them in the exhibition.

Artist profile

I walk in the urban, suburban, and rural landscapes using a variety of media to evoke the complex interactions intrinsic to walking. I am intrigued by the artistic, sensory, speculative, and critical potential walking brings to art. Walking crosses paths with numerous disciplines and allows me to express my varied interests in the arts and humanities.
I attended three International Walking Art Conferences in Europe where the fellowship of other Walking Artists inspired me to facilitate Australian Walking Artists Inc.
