 Going Under and Going Down

.

Water formed styrofoam debris, video or projection, approx 2m width, against a wall 1m deep, max. 2025

I will work out ways to display the tiny pieces I have collected off beaches. As well as bringing in styrofoam weathered by water, I intend to work on videos of the action of waterways over weirs in forcing all objects (rubbish, sticks, etc) under water, repeatedly. The fall of the water vigorously tumbles all debris, then sends each one under to reappear in an upwelling but they all remain caught in the eddy so come round again for repeat submersion. Where plastic bottles endure, each brush with wave action rubs tiny pieces off styrofoam objects, so they become rounded. The fragments become too small to easily capture in rubbish removal.
