Chairwoman
.
Reclaimed wood, cast concrete/ fabric , steel & ply, dimensions various. 2024
“chairwoman “ sculpturally draws its narrative & symbolism from the societal challenges women in many sectors are often confronted with especially in order to gain a “chair” in a pole position of leadership. The concrete base symbolises the solid foundation offered, while at the top of the long linear “backbone” rests a small chair disproportionate to its foundation, further highlighting the imbalance & inequalities that continue to exist .
I Studied MA fine Art in Leeds UK way back & have taught Art / Design for 26yrs Uk , Europe & here in Sydney. Re-establishing my own practice after a temporary hiatus , I continue to explore materiality & process through the interplay of connections & contradictions , urban - suburban -solidity - fragility- narratives - text - identity- objects- semiotics-signs -symbols -roles - relationships-cultural experience & heritage - the dichotomy -symbiosis - nature- digital - disconnect - & consciousness of personal landscape are explored through paint/ sculpture / installation / photography & print .
