Wool and viscose yarn on timber panel, 31 x 31 cm (w/o frame), 2024

This piece is part of a series of knitted artworks in dialogue with the matrilineal creative and labour practices of my ancestors. My mother taught me the basics of knitting as a young person, but only in recent years have I expanded upon those skills and sought ways to incorporate knitting into my broader practice.

Requiring hours of concentration and a precise rhythm of repetition, knitting has afforded me time to unite the dichotomous influences that inform my practice and being – the masculine and feminine, the labourer and intellect, the fine art painter and crafter at heart.

Artist profile

I am an interdisciplinary artist based on Gadigal Country. I work with painting, drawing, installation and fibre art. Responding to the everyday, as well as personal and collective histories, my work investigates the dualities of public and private lived experiences and contradictions in the human condition.
