 Perception, 2024

.

Acrylic, metallic pigments, pen and pastel on 300gsm BFK Rives. 108 x 108 cm. 2024.

My experimental drawing practice involves drawing while walking around the Inner West. Made in my Petersham studio, the large drawing, Perception, references the smaller drawings made while walking. My walking drawings are a kind of kinaesthetic seismograph, capturing not just what is seen, but what is sensed and felt, and the action of my body as I move through space. While walking and drawing I am documenting my perceptions of place, traversing both the visible landscape and the invisible landscape of memory. When the visible and invisible combine, an atmosphere is generated. I think of these works as perceived landscapes; they are a sensorial mapping of a site and its associated atmosphere.

Artist profile

My experimental drawing practice involves walking and drawing simultaneously, mostly around the Inner West. I am a member of the Australian Walking Artists network and an art educator, teaching experimental drawing. I am a founder and director of DRAW Space, an ARI on Enmore Road in Newtown that provides a platform to make, see and experience contemporary drawing.
